Homann, J.B.
Hiberniae Regnum . . ., c. 1720
22.5 x 18.75 in.
Original outline and wash color.
Almost Very Good, with several cities neatly underlined and centerfold reinforced on verso.

Splendid map of Ireland, divided into its four provinces, with copious detail of cities, towns, and topographical features. Colored by province, the political features include county boundaries and numerous peerages. As credited in the title cartouche, this map is based on an original by Nicholas Visscher (1680).

The title cartouche emphasizes the rustic beauty and agricultural abundance of Ireland through figures of Pan and the Celtic goddess Brigit. Ireland’s natural bounty is also depicted in the scale cartouche, showing on one side a farmer with his ox and on the other a scene with fishermen.
