Chili

Hondius. H.
Chili, 1633
14.5 x 19 in.
Later (but not modern) outline color, with full color cartouches.
Almost Fine, with light, even toning

Decorative early map of Chile from Copiapo to Isla de Chiloé. The map is dominated by the mountains of the Andes. West of the mountains, it shows the main river valleys, regions, and provinces. We see a number of cities founded in the previous century, including Santiago, Concepción, La Serena and Valdivia. The map gives some sense of the lakes and volcanoes of southern Chili, with two visible lakes and two volcanoes in the area of Villarrica spewing flames.
