Tartariae Maioris sive Asiaticae Tabula,. . .

Homann Heirs/ Haas. J.
Tartariae Maioris sive Asiaticae Tabula,. . ., (1730) 1739
18.75 x 21.5 in
Original outline and wash color.
Very good. Side margins trimmed but adequate.

Complex and detailed map of northeast Asia, showing settlements, geographical features, and many overlapping regions, provinces and countries. The northern coastline shows a very indefinite, oversized Nova Zemlya and a conjectural eastern peninsula. Hokkaido is attached to both Sakhalin Island and to the mainland. A portion of the mythical Company’s Land remains to the East. As noted bottom left, this is a later state of the map, showing the border between Russian and Ottoman territories after 1739. The map is dedicated to the Russian czarina, Anna Ivanovna.
