Map of the Mogul Empire, comprising northern India, with Pakistan, Bangladesh and parts of Afghanistan and Burma. Based on Baffin’s map of 1618, it shows the area just as interior details are beginning to be filled in. To the east is Kandahar and in the west is Lake Chiamay, the fictional source of the great rivers of Southeast Asia. A product of the Dutch golden age of cartography, the ornamentation includes several cartouches, sailing ships and elephants.
