Interesting travel guide to the United States at the time of the Mexican War. Copiously illustrated with over 100 wood-engravings in the text, it also includes a large (21.5 x 25.5 in) folding map with multiple insets. The insets are "Rail Road and Canal Routes from Albany to Buffalo", "Map showing the Rail Roads between the cities of New York, Boston, and Albany. . ." “Rail Road Route from New York to Philadelphia," , “Railroad Route from Philadelphia to Washington”, and "Map of Oregon, Northern California, Santa Fe, etc.". The last is important for showing the Western regions just prior to the war.
