Africa below the Equator, with an inset showing the Horn and a delicately etched cartouche. The cartography shows 18th century scientific accuracy combined with a reliance on earlier sources, characteristic of the de Vaugondys. Little of the interior geography is known, although an approximation of the large East African lakes is shown as Lake Maravi. Numerous tribal, kingdom and other place names are provided, often accompanied by clarifying or descriptive commentary.
