Very Good.

A map of Central Europe showing the Archduchy of Austria and areas adjacent, including present day Austria, the Czech Republic, Southern Germany, and Switzerland. Seutter, an apprentice and later rival to J.B. Homann, is known for his attention to detail and richly decorated cartouches. This map celebrates Austria’s position as historic heartland of the Holy Roman Empire, and in addition to the usual geographic features, it shows abbeys, episcopal seats, and imperial cities. The fine, dark cartouche contains coats of arms and allegorical figures representing time and space. The motto, paraphrasing Virgil, declares the boundless and timeless nature of the Empire.
